The Rhodes Hoteliers association was founded in September 1949 by a small group of hoteliers and small property owners, who constructed and operated small units in the area of the Medieval Town (Old Town). In the beginning of the 50's, Rhodes had 12 hotels and 16 smaller properties totalling about 1.000 beds. Today Rhodes has over 500 hotels, offering more than 70.000 beds, 90% of which are members of The Rhodes Hoteliers association.

Among them, very well-known hotels, whose reputation reaches far out of Rhodes and Greece, and the quality of service they offer has established Rhodes as one of the most respected tourist centres of international tourism. Hotels with high standards, excellent conference facilities, fully equipped for athletic and entertainment activities compose a hotel-infrastructure that corresponds to all modern forms of tourism and meets the needs of the most demanding present day tourist.

In its course until today, The Rhodes Hoteliers association didn't limit its role to solving only professional problems concerning its members, though it was meant to be its main purpose. It went much further than that and played a very important role in the development of tourism in Rhodes, especially during the 60's and later on, when tourism and hotel development started booming on the island.

The Rhodes Hoteliers association, in cooperation with the municipality of Rhodes - Town, took the first step in the process of promoting Rhodes as a tourist destination. It takes part in all international tourist exhibitions, has the responsibility of promoting the organisation of meetings and attracting big world tourist organizations. Furthermore, it has helped the creation of various advertising campaigns in Greece and abroad, helped with the shooting of movies that were filmed on the island of Rhodes, promoted and advertised it as an ideal place for conferences and has created and printed advertisement brochures. It has always played, the leading role in the development and promotion of tourism for the island of Rhodes.

In the years since the foundation of The Rhodes Hoteliers association, tourism on the island has experienced astonishing development that has made Rhodes one of the leading islands in international tourism and one of the most popular tourist destinations in the Mediterranean.
